furious backpedaling:
Yes, this was apparently seen a major shift in American foreign policy, so there was a big outcry until it changed.
I'd be curious to understand the mechanism, though, as to who in the president's inner circle and in the leadership of the Democratic party, was responsible for removing the pro-Israeli provisions in the first place. it had to be people with tremendous influence to have done such a thing.
And so long as we don't know who was responsible, it means that they're still out there influencing our government's policies.
Of course, a few weeks ago, Obama's spokesman Jay Carney refused to say that Jerusalem was Israel's capital, so it makes you wonder what Obama's real intentions are.
Update: Nearly every press outlet is reporting that there was a huge part of the Democratic party that publicly opposed restoring the reference to Jerusalem, and that they booed the decision to restore it, yelling "NO" loudly. In fact, many Democrats believe that the decision to restore the Jerusalem reference was opposed by a majority of Democrats, but rammed through, nonetheless, by Villaragosa.
The sad fact is that other than liking Jewish donations, a very large part of the Democratic party is anti-Israel and, IMO, also anti-Semitic and racist. Sure, there have always been a handful of anti-Semites in both parties, but it's now seen to be official and also a majority of the Democratic party that does not support a pro-Israel stance. In the end, there's no denying that Leftists, as in the Democratic party are anti-Israel and anti-Semitic by nature.
I really do feel sorry for any Jews who voted for Obama in '08, believing this hope and change nonsense, because this must be hurtful for them to see their former hero show his true colors - no support for Israel against Iran, slashing the joint military cooperation to just 1/3 of what was planned, and removing the 08 party platform which declares Israel to be an ally of the U.S. That provision has not been restored, btw. Very sad.
