I don't know, I grew up in Europe and the only times I saw 8-year-olds use Swastikas or Nazi terminology, was in an act of deliberate defiance or insult...
As for Israel, I just recently scrubbed off Swastikas from a lamp post in Hadar.
Most of Europe was under Nazi occupation during WW2 and Israel has historical connection to the Nazi persecution because of the olim. I would have to agree with Aliyah1995, if there's no personal family account of the Nazi occupation and it's just piece of 20th century histore combined with not so great passion for the subject then even the obvious facts become not so obvious. And these are also soldiers in this case, great in what they do but safe to say they aren't always highly academicly oriented (in no disparaging way).
