Right, but every social contract is specific to the time and place it exists. In the United States, if I'm not mistaken- Federal taxation (until, at least, the great socialist experiment, the new deal) was dedicated to Defense and interstate transportation and commerce. The State taxes, on the other hand, were dedicated to local programs that often benefited directly those people that paid taxes. Why should you in N.C. pay Social Security, Welfare, and Medicaid for someone in Texas? or Alaska? or Montana, or Puerto Rico? or Guam?
