I've no objection to advice being given to drivers to assist them, but I have great objections to automated controls or overrides, especially when they aren't universally installed. Drivers are legally responsible for their vehicle/passengers circumstances. Anything which reduces that responsibility HAS to be bad. Crashes SHOULD cause physical injury/death-gives the driver something to be afraid of, and keeps his mind on the job. If not, then redress at law must be available. Harsh? Maybe, but that the law I want and will live/die with. I drive a 90KW 1.4T manual-shift diesel ute. I think some of you would be horrified by the frequency of automatic shift vehicles near missing my towbar because my gearchanges are necessarily slow. My accelerations are economical, & low pollution. I can't fast-shift my drivetrain-it's mechanically impossible to do non-destructively. Few other drivers seems to realize that, despite being full licenseholders with years of experience, and they try to drive up my tailpipe because they have more performance than me, and won't give me time or space to work my way up the 'box. I actually would prefer a smaller, more economical motor, but that was discontinued a model or 2 sooner than mine.
