Do we eradicate emotions or develop love and compassion?
Developing love and compassion by themselves doesn't necessarily help us to deal with troublesome emotions if they arise unexpectedly.
Extreme emotions can still overcome people who haven't developed other practices and investigations .
So we practice loving kindness and compassion and develop awareness, equanimity and wisdom. There is no need to consciously try to eradicate or suppress emotions, with correct practice they lessen gradually. There's no 'either, or'.
