Please, this is just nostradamus BS all over again, i bet they had this **** in 1012
Knowing how much more gullible people were back then, they probably wanted the world to end in 1012 so they could all solemnly 'teleport' over to their 'great journey to heaven' or something rather like that. Unfortunately for them, it didn't happen anyway. I bet some of them committed suicide just to speed up the process. There is really no reliable source of this nonsensical apocalypse trash.
The human world will only end when their vital resources expire. This planet, however, shall remain until the expanding gases of the aspiring red giant 'Sol' shall consume it with it's weakened gravity. You can count on that day, approximately 5,000,000,000 years later to be the more realistic apocalypse. The expanding fires of the dying sun shall consume all proximal cosmic bodies around it.
...but that is just my opinion. I wouldn't call it an 'educated guess'. I'd call it 'common sense'.
