I think hallways are a fear of the unknown. Anything could happen at any time. There are many doorways to enter and unsuspecting things that could appear. They're scary for a reason, they are dark and long, and because they can potentially lead you on a new path (depending on which door you choose). It's a passageway of options. I think 'things' try to get our attention in hallways, that's why so many people have issues being within them. I say confront it and ask yourself what it is your afraid of seeing/knowing.
