I have to wear sunglasses, and good ones at that, because I wear contact lenses, which let in a lot more light into my eyes and is not healthy for them.

I think I'd dispute the idea that contacts let more light into your eyes, let alone a lot more. What are the physics for that? If they did, people with contacts would be able to see far better, especially at night, than normal-sighted people!
