This had always been my impression of Orchids. However, last year when in Bangkok on a day trip Ubonwan and I bought some Orchids that cost us nearly 1,000 Baht. We tended them in the hotel bathroom for three days before taking them home to Buriram where Ubonwan and Jakarpong put them in our flower garden. We were very disappointed that within a week they had all died...

David, Do you know the type(s) of orchid you bought ?
Did you plant them in the shade? They need dappled sunlight-as they would get growing in the branches of a trees canopy.If the leaves went light green-yellow, (or black) this is why they died. Orchids are not happy at temperatures over 30 degreesC, while this alone will not kill them, a combination of too much light and heat probably will.
