A few days back a newish Farang English teacher friend of mine came to see me cause of problems he was having with a dog!

He's already given me permission to start this thread at thailandqa.com and here is what he had to say (in my words)

"Steve, i got a serious problem with this darned dog which lives in my soi. I live in a rented house with my wife (Thai) and we have a four year-old son together. Near the front of the soi lives this old woman who owns about 20 scruff looking dogs. She has one dog which she let's loose all time which causes the trouble. All it does is bark and try to bite whoever passes by. It gave me a nasty bite in the ankle once and i had to go for Rabies shots"

I explained to him that you’re allowed (according to Thai law) to ask for damages. He went on to say that “I went to see the old woman after her dog had bit me but she said ‘I was the one to blame as I had teased her dog’”

He said his main worry was his four year old son. “The animal has even attacked my son and bit him before (no blood)”. He further said that he has to carry a huge stick every time he goes to the mini-mart at the front of his soi to protect both himself and his son!

He was so serious about asking for my advice that last night I asked a police buddie of mine out for a few bevvies to ask him on what to do. I told him the story and he said “The police can’t do anything. Your best bet is to go to 7-11, buy some rat poison, dip it in meat, and let the dog eat it – just the kill the thing!”

I called my friend up with words of wisdom of Thailand’s finest and he told me “I I don’t have the heart to do such a thing”

Anyway, animal lovers know that poisoning is an awful way to die.

No, what would you do? Kill the dog to protect both you and your son or just let the thing go about it's daily business of biting people so as not to create any bad kharma!??

Thailand has no laws about ‘putting a dog down’ for attacking people and the old owner sounds like she doesn’t give a darned!
