wasn't there a story last year about a state that created an amnesty for child abandonment and people were driving from hundreds of miles away to leave their teenagers? It's hardly an un-heard of phenonmenon.

and I don't get the frenzy that she put him on a PLANE alone. I mean, it's probably the form of transportation where the kid would get into the least trouble, and be least likely to wander off on his own.

Not to minimize it but there are far more horrifying cases of people abusing their own flesh and blood every day.
