New Yorker journalist Elizabeth Kolbert believes Hansen is "increasingly
isolated among climate activists."
“The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death.”
James Hansen NASA
On June 23, 2009, James Hansen along with 30 other mining protesters were arrested in Raleigh County, West Virginia.
James Hansen and about 100 other mining protesters were arrested in 2010 in front of the White House in Washington, DC.
James Hansen and 142 other activists were arrested in 2011, at another demonstration in front of the White House
Andrew Revkin wrote: "Dr. Hansen has pushed far beyond the boundaries
of the conventional role of scientists, particularly government scientists,
in the environmental policy debate"

Physicist Freeman Dyson is critical of Hansen's climate-change activism. "The person who is really responsible for this overestimate of global warming is Jim Hansen. He consistently exaggerates all the dangers... Hansen has turned his science into ideology
Figure 1: Temperature prognosis by the Hansen Group from 1988
A: Increase of CO2 emissions of 1.5% per year
B: fixed increase CO2 emissions after the year 2000
C: No increase in CO2 emissions after the year 2000
Observed
The arrow extending beyond Scenario A shows the temperature value that should have been predicted by the Hansen Team based a CO2 increase of 2.5%. According to Hansen’s projection, the temperature should have increased 1.5°C when compared to the 1970s level. In truth the temperature rose only 0.6°C.
