Default Developing open-eyed clairvoyance/astral sight: Experiment
Think of a red apple. Do you see it? It's somewhere in that mind's eye screen thing somewhere in your head.

Interestingly enough, this "screen" is where hypnogogics and dreams are displayed... After focusing on it for long enough, by entraining the mind into making it the main source for visual perception, the images there become vivid enough to seem like they're right there in front of you. That's what I use to induce lucid dreams and projections... A WILD technique, also useful for phasing.

This mind's eye isn't limited to visuals, though... It is what we use whenever we visualize, as Robert explained many times -- you can feel tactile sensations (mobile body awareness), hear things (if you remember a song, a sound, a voice), taste and smell as well. Other things can manifest themselves through this pathway, a type of non-verbal communication, call it inspiration, intuition, or an epiphany.

It would appear that this "mind screen" is not merely just the brain's "center of imagination and memory recall" screen, but more like an actual gateway to our multi-dimensional consciousness, it technically has psychic properties.

My understanding was that in order to develop auric sight, or any kind of clairvoyance "of the physical eyes," you need to be able to make this mind screen vivid enough that it'll overlap with physical sight.

Now I don't know if what I'm doing is going to aid me in obtaining "open eyed astral sight" or if any of this is new, but here's things to consider:

We're often told that in order to see auras, we should look at things in an "unfocused manner" ; that we should simulate peripheral sight.

Then there's this issue with the way we look at things. Have you ever tried to observe yourself as you see a new object for the first time?

Let's say it's the first time you see an ipod. What does your brain do? The first thing it does is it looks at the ipod... And it thinks "have I seen this before?" It'll try to match the device with something you have in your memory... You might think of a game boy, or a cell phone... So that'll be about how much information you'll have... In order to specifically identify ipods from now on, you will go into a "decomposing phase" where you will look at the parts that make up the ipod and create this new entry in your memory... An ipod... White plastic, a screen, a wheel, this little button in the middle, a pair of white earphones...

Now this decomposing and learning process will never happen again. Next time you see an ipod, your brain will instantly recognize the shape. Instead of trying to identify it, it'll be like seeing a label that says "there is an ipod here."

This is the same thing with letters... Look at the astral dynamics banner at the top, and look at the letters without reading... Or try! It's impossible. The moment it goes under your eyes, there is this pattern-recognition response that happens automatically. You will never un-learn the letters.

We patternize everything. Have you ever lost something in your house only to realize that it was in plain sight the whole time? That's an example of how these patterns dominate and make up our perception -- we only notice things that are out of place, substantially different, or new... The rest is routine, unnoticeable.

The big question is... If clairvoyant sight is seated in this mind's eye... Why is it that when I look at my hand, I don't see auras and stuff in the back of my head?

The one way we can see mind's eye perception as vividly as waking perception is by going into trance... We forget about everything physical, and become our minds.

So, one would think that toning down physical perception is the way to make this "subconscious" perception come out... Yet that is not my experience. I believe many here have experienced this... A few have mentioned it.

Have you ever been in trance, in that sleepy borderline state between awake and asleep, then suddenly opened your eyes to be greeted with odd hallucinations? I've mentioned mine a few times... I've seen my room on fire, I've seen a spider running on my door and disappearing as i was looking at it. Just tonight, it happened again, I heard someone say "They're behind us, run!" and I saw this black ball in front of me with electric wires coming out stuck all over my ceiling...

Interestingly... The more it happens, the longer I can watch whatever appeared... As soon as I try and make it out or tell myself "is this real?," it slowly fades away...

So in other words... Not only can I see both "screens" at the same time... Which would mean that physical sight is not something you need to turn off completely to see mind's eye perception clearly... But also, I'm making some kind of progress! The images stay longer... Is this the beginning of clairvoyant abilities?

Now I want to explain my theory... When we speak of "unfocusing" to see the aura, it might not be so much about making things blurry... Perhaps instead, it would be to simply turn off this "pattern-recognition" engine we have in our brains which basically blocks out mind's eye perceptions from physical sight.

Why do I think this is the case? Have you ever felt this in the morning: you open your eyes... You see something, but you're not sure what it is... It actually takes a while to make out what you're seeing, until you just go "oh... that's my dresser, I'm in my room!" It can also happen if you're not sleeping at your house, and you expect to wake up in your usual bed...

Regaining consciousness would therefore be synonymous with rebuilding this "pattern screen" in our mind's eye... Kind of like reactivating the left brain (logical, patterns, etc) and covering up the right brain (intuitive, psychic, etc)...

In any case... I might be completely off with the theory, and I might not have explained it as clearly as I'm seeing it in my head... But there's definitely something intriguing about these open-eyed hypnogogics.

I'd like to get other people to experiment with this and tell me their results... What you need to do is simple:

1. Go to bed as you normally would.
2. As soon as you feel that you're drifting off, especially if you're seeing hypnogogics or phosphenes, suddenly open your eyes.
3. Record what you see and post it here. Also mention if you're making progress, if the images are lasting longer -- if you're seeing them, that is.

The goal would be to get acquainted with this dual sight, and somehow find a way to activate it at will...

A word of caution though... Since this might lead to building up the ability to hallucinate while wide awake... It might not be safe. I cannot be held responsible if you get sent to a mental institution... Especially since I might be sent to one before you do!

And of course, thanks to anyone who participates.
