I have the same problem which is why I advocate the 'three hours early' technique. Wake up 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours early (depending on how long it takes you to go down again, get up, use the bathroom, and then go back (I don't go back to bed but use a recliner for other reasons) and get as comfy and snuggly as possible.
Then I do breathing and muscle-relaxing exercises, and a little bit of energy raising (not a lot, like 5 minutes), then go into trance practice. By then I'm settled down and can go into 'noticing' or 'e-body loosening', if I'm awake enough. The reason I do this, is because those last two hours of sleep are high REM times naturally, and 2 hours is long enough not to have anxiety about having to get up eventually, which is another problem for me. (Is it time to get up? What time is it? etc.). So this is why I recommend this.
