Another site I have found really helpful is OpenStreetMap. It is a similar project to the google map maker with one huge plus.....You can get the map info back into your computer and upload it to a garmin gps. Takes a bit of fooling around but seems to work pretty good.

Santiago is already pretty detailed and helped out quite a bit on my last trip there. It is great to see where you actually are on the display since many roads don't have street signs.

I've added most of my gps tracks around the Sosua area.

Worth a look.
