My FIL is not a pet person. He just doesn't believe in animals as pets or being let live in the house. He's in his 80's and grew up in a rural area with the belief that if you had animals they were food and nothing more.

He wasn't thrilled to hear we had a dog and it lived in the house. He was even less thrilled that we got a 2nd dog. When he came to visit and my son was talking about our wonderful dogs my boy also happened to mention that one was a Pit Bull. So, my FIL blew up and said he was not speaking to us again until that dog was gone. When I pointed out the fact that he is an old man and how horrible it would be if he died and the last things he said to his son and grandson were in anger over a dog he decided that he would still speak to us, but never come to our home again when he was in state visiting.

After 3 years he did end up coming to our home. The FIL and MIL are not in great health anymore and their visit this past month was their last trip up. They came to the house for a few hours, but the dogs had to be crated for the visit.
