The sad part is how long it took them to even get the dog help. The dog was confused, surrounded, with his owner on the ground unable to say anything to calm him, and cops threatening him, hell I woulda lunged too. IMO police turn to deadly force way to quickly. This isn't the first or the last time someones pet will be shot because cops don't know how to handle situations where animals are involved efficiently.
And before anyone says anything about "a pit should never show aggression" etc. etc., take a FLEETING glance at the situation the dog was in and honestly tell me a street dog with god knows what upbringing wouldn't have lunged to defend its master. Regardless of breed that was simply too much for the poor dog to handle. He wouldn't leave his owner and flee so the second response was to fight.
That said I don't say it is fine for the breed to show human aggression. I'm a faster judge on euthanizing human aggressive APBT's than most ever would be. But at that moment the dog was only doing what would be expected of an animal put into that sort of situation with no to little time to adjust. It's just a shame.
