I will just pass on watching the video. I understand that they had to get to the guy and couldn't risk getting attacked in the meantime, or wait for somebody to come to be able to handle it differently.
But I also wonder if those folks that were helping the dude and shot his dog (probably the most precious possession and company he has in his life) and left it to suffer realize how much more pain they inflicted to the owner in the process. Somebody like that might lose all hope and commit suicide next.
