Any diet works if you follow it. There's no magic in low carb diets or low fat diets or low calorie diets or cabbage diets. The key is to find one that you LIKE, one that you will follow and one that makes sense to you. I encourage you to rate the diet you choose also by how healthy it is long term. It's not enough to just lose weight if you end up unhealthy from it, right? We want to get HEALTHY, not just lose weight.

The reason I say any diet works is that restricting food intake and increasing energy expenditure will result in a loss of body weight (fat and lean tissue). It's not so important how you do that, just that you do it. Low carb diets have a slight advantage in that you are rarely hungry... making it easier to do. But you have to find what works for YOU, for your circumstances. If you have blood sugar issues... try low carb. If you're a runner looking to lose 5# before a race... low carb is not for you. One size does not fit all. Just make it fit you. I would suggest staying away from diets that require more than a vitamin/mineral/fiber supplement.

Once you've picked your diet... learn everything you can about it. Get prepared mentally and buy what you need. Set a date and then start. Once you've learned the "diet" start working on your inner self, your thoughts, your feelings, your self image. Permanent weight loss happens between the ears. In your head. Figure out WHY you gained the weight... and you'll have figured out HOW to keep it off. Skip this and you're doomed to repeat the process over and over and over...
