Whatever it is that you choose to do, never do so much that it leaves you so sore that you won't work out the next day. I agree that SLOW & STEADY is the way to go. Before you know it, it will be routine for you to do these things each day.

Start with just one set (15-20) reps of your chosen exercise.
Plus, it's easier to work out a body part each day instead of trying to do all around exercise each day. Abs/legs one day, arms/upper body the next -- or break those four up into individual days. Make sure also that 3x week you get 20 minutes of cardio (walk, jog, run whatever). Your body will love you for it.

Use your small arm weights while watching TV.
Do full knee bends when you pick up the laundry your husband and kids leave all over the place.
Stretch every night before bedtime and do a few situps -- it really helps with water weight during those times (know what I mean) and you'll sleep so much better.
