I went to my local Roller Girl shop (yes, there actually is a shop downtown devoted to Roller Derby) and bought the best skates I could afford. Riedell "Wicked", the most expensive footwear I have ever bought in my life, are comfortable and cool looking and I broke them in last night at Skateworld.
Roller Skaters are a whole other subculture than the mainstream. There were all ages and skill levels at the rink last night and I was observing that the best skaters were very confident and mostly kept to themselves while they were in their own beautiful world as they moved with the music. I was mainly working on my crossovers and feeling balance. I did not fall once but felt some strain in the front of my shins, hope that doesn't mean shin splints in the future. I skated for 2 hours and got all sweaty so I'm sure it's a great workout.
Got on the scale this morning and lost another lb!
