Common problem. Several guys I play with have eliminated their irons above the six iron or so, hitting hybrids instead.

With the longer irons, the sweet spot is smaller, the shaft longer, and most of us don't generate enough clubhead speed to hit the ball correctly. My last set had irons all the way through a one iron. I couldn't hit that or the 2 at all. I carry a 3, but am not very confident with it.

The last set of irons I bought (4 or 5 years ago), I got SW through 5 iron. I then bought a 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid seperatly. You can now also buy some iron sets that have a 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid as part of the set in place of 3 and 4 irons.
