I think this'll wind up like Phelps; sponsor drops them to avoid any affiliation as a media stunt, picks him back up when the mess is cleared.

They very well could. Companies have picked pitchmen back up that have done worse then Phelps and Woods.

I think they did the exact thing with Kobe Bryant.
