There's a math issue here. Less degree does NOT always equate to more distance these days. The rules have flipped a little bit.

There have been studies that show that if you use a higher loft on your driver with the new technology these days, that it will actually stop further out. This is why you see a lot of pros moving their loft UPWARDS on their drivers.

Beyond that, you're completely discounting spin into the equation.

On the issue of ball flight, I think there's a misconception as to which one goes higher and which goes lower when compared to a fairway wood.

All of which is moot in my case. Even when I *did* carry a set of woods, it was 1,3,5...I've never liked 7. That and my irons are longer than standard, whereas I stick with standard length woods. With only 14 clubs to a bag, there's never been any room for it, regardless.
