You can do them backwards too. I usually do ten minutes forward, ten back, ten forward... And sometimes I go up on my toes instead of flat footed and you can *really* feel it in your calves. Super jealous, btw. Wish I had room for one of those.
my wife and I have a treadmill and elliptical in the basement....I am taking the dogs on their "hike" (two or four milers depending on our collective mood) until 1st snow then we use the basement
