Dr. Simeons says this about vegetarians, with the caution that they will lose at half the rate: "Strict vegetarians such as orthodox Hindus present a special problem, because milk and curds are the only animal protein they will eat. To supply them with sufficient protein of animal origin they must drink 500 cc. of skimmed milk per day, though part of this ration can be taken as curds."

I would say that means you can eat some cottage cheese (curds), but you should do so with caution. I have eaten cottage cheese a few times on the diet and had good losses the days I ate it. I used Nancy's 1% cottage cheese, which had fewer calories than some of the nonfat cottage cheeses I had seen and definitely had fewer additives. As for the sodium content, I have really low sodium and regularly drink salt water, so that wasn't of much concern to me.

You can also, on occasion, eat 1 whole egg + 3 egg whites as a protein choice if you are developing an aversion to meat.
