I tell anyone who asks, and sometimes those who don't. Especially when someone is offering me food, or if I have a dinner engagement (not a lot of those), but I will inform my host/ess that I won't be eating because I am on a special diet.
Since I don't have any friends, there isn't anyone to give advice or criticize.
But, I think the main part is that I am so fat, it's like "hey, a fat chick on a diet, whoopee".
