I agree with rubu. You'll go through the same stages as you would with a human loved one because well, they are family. In fact, often times our pets are even closer to us that some of our family because we're with them day in and day out usually. It's more like losing a child and a best friend combined in one and it's just....heartbreaking.

Take the time to grieve and then it might help you to do something to remember Sammy by. Like put together a scrapbook with pictures or have your favorite picture of her framed. You could make a donation to a local shelter in her name even, depending on your personality. It's hard, but you'll pull through. *hugs*
