I am also sorry for your loss. It hasn't been a year since I lost one of my most beloved Shark. We felt his death was unjustified because the doctor had said the prognosis was good and it was just simple poisoning. We had mentioned that Shark's buddy died of Parvo and we didn't know it until it was too late. And this time, the vet ruled it out.
The one with the most surprising reaction was my partner's. He really grieved for Shark and we cried for a week together. I think that it is important to have someone to talk to. You should start with not holding back and if you need to cry, do so. Acceptance will follow.
As for what I did during that week, I searched for pictures of him in all my old phones and made a collage with it. I even created headers and different wallpapers using Photoshop. I guess this was my way of recovering.
