Bonnie,
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply...but life sort of demanded a front seat for a while so my computer time suffered..

I've been on Atkins since the end of September..and as of yesterday I'm down 39 pounds...one pound to go and I reach my first major goal...

It's recommended that you have a complete blood panel testing done when you first start and then again... say in six months...Due to other health concerns I have a panel done every year..My doctor (female) who not only knows about this WOE but UNDERSTANDS it...suggested that I go ahead and have my usual January testing even though I'd been on the "diet" for only four months ...The results are in...and everything is in normal range...all liver and kidney numbers included...which, to me, indicates that the EXTRA protein hasn't done me any damage...AND, I might add, I've gone from "OMG she's going to drop dead from a stroke at any minute" to "Low risk"...My extremely high blood pressure, for which the main doctor (male) in our office wanted to put me on a pill ..has gone down to super normal...

As you well know...no two lupus patients are the same...and in each of us...no two days are the same...heck...sometimes no two hours are the same...I could drag this clear down to the nano-seconds..lol...but you get the idea...Work with your doctor...and IF ( my own opinion here) your doctor will not work with the Atkins plan...look around for a good doctor who will....Because none of my vital organs have been affected, I've never been to a specialist...I've been able to stick with my G.P.....My doctor (the female) knows more about Atkins, than some, mostly because I proved, to her that it works when I lost 65 pounds doing this about six years ago...which I regained because, back then, I used Atkins as a diet and not a way of life...sigh, I DO learn...eventually....

How long since you were diagnosed with lupus? I'm pushing 69 and was diagnosed back when I was 44...

One more thought and then I'll close...When it comes to the EXTRA protein...keep in mind that as you progress in this WOE the amount of protein goes down and levels out..

Best of luck...You've made a good decision here...keep posting..

Lynn
