For me I think the scale is a stick/carrot tool. If I lose or stay the same is encourages me to work that much harder, if I go up and I know I've been cheating, it encourages me to get back on track. I can gain 10 pounds in a week so I'd rather be able to nip it in the bud early or suffer through having to look at it everyday!
