Hi Jeff,

It's good to make sure you're drinking enough water, but over a gallon a day seems a bit excessive. You don't want to wash away the electrolytes your body needs.

If you are extremely active and drink the water gradually over the course of the day, you're fine. However, if you drink a more than a quart of water per hour, that's not good for you. Here's an article in Scientific American:
