Yes, I count calories as well as carbs. I keep under 35 carbs and 1400 calories. Berries are very tasty and low calorie, but higher in carbs than salad veggies, so I limit the amount I eat to one cup per day, spread throughout the day. Macadamia nuts were my downfall this week. In two days, I ate 6 ounces. That's 1200 calories of macadamia nuts, but only 12 net carbs. I gained half a pound. Calories do matter, but your body will burn more calories when you are on a low-carb diet because it takes more energy to burn fat and protein than it does to burn carbohydrates.
