We didn't have this conversation with my kids. My wife used to be rather socially liberal vis-a-vis race. Of course she had that luxury living in the white suburbs of NY. I told her that they would find out for themselves and life's little realities would override any sugar-coated liberal myths promulgated in their 'Barney-the-dinosaur' schooling. I'm happy to report that both of my kids have figured it out, all by themselves. My son, after doing some jobs in Philadephia (which he calls Killadelphia) insisted on getting a carry permit and a Baretta pistol. I was happy to give him the gun. I recently treated him to an AK47. All of the local kids own pistols, shotguns and semi-automatic rifles. These are the best mannered and respectful young people I have had the pleasure of knowing. I look at them and I see hope for this country's future.
