How are they able to recruit these people to turn on their fellow men and women? I don't just mean in Egypt. If you have enough money, and enough power to protect your recruits from prosecution by the law, you can get just about anybody to do anything.

The key is enough money and power. In a country with a lot of poor people, like Egypt, it doesn't take a lot of money to be enough. I'm sure those riot cops come real cheap, so they have lots of them. In America they keep the costs down by hiring stupid, but obedient people.

Jay Gould, the railroad tycoon from the 1890s understood this. Someone asked him if he was worried about a strike against his railroad. He said that he had enough money that he could hire half the workers to kill the other half. This is the elementary 'divide and conquer' trick. It's done with money.

Sadly, the only way we will see an end to this kind of repression is when TPTB either run out of money, or no one will work for them. Neither scenario is likely to emerge anytime soon.
