i guess i'm going to have to quick crete a post in a 5 gallon bucket or something.

There's a novel idea. Twice in my life I have planted a mailbox only to have the USPS tell me to "move it over a few inches". A garbage can full of concrete should be enough to keep anyone from stealing it.
