Not necessarily. I have Stillwater leather collars on mine. Renee and Rita like to make Ike and Owen play. If the boys just lay there and don't want to play the girls will try to grab their collars and force them to get up and get moving. I've seen them drag the boys around the basement by their collars and Renee chewed the heck out of the collars when she was a pup. The collars have held up remarkably well.
