Just went to the vet for our 12 week check up with Eden. After the vet did the weigh, poke you in the butt routine she said that pit bulls are prone to itchy skin- which we've been dealing with since day one. Itchy skin is often a sign of allergies. The bully breed dogs and their mixes tend toward allergies, so if your dog is one of the bullies or a mix and has itchy skin the chances are its from allergies. My husband and I perked up at this and asked what the vet thought she might be along with pit. That's when she offered us something we'd never heard of....genetic testing for our dog!! They happened to have just ordered a batch of swabs and they took an oral swab, sent it off and we should hear back in around 4 weeks. This test will tell us what top 4 breeds are in Eden's line, all for $70. Now, for $120 they can run a blood panel to be studied and they send you a broader profile of all breeds in your dog and the risks associated with those types of dogs. Health risks or behavior risks? It seems pretty cool but was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this kind of genetic testing for pooches before?
