All these "advocates" who jumped on the breed bandwagon as the cause du jour are doing a lot more harm than good.

Absolutely....and it seems to me this large "cause du jour" crowd is a unique development among breeds that have gone down the fad road before; and is what keeps the breed in the public eye so much (in a detrimental way); and is what also to a large extent keeps the breed from ever being able to dig it's way out of the mess it is in.
