Witnessed something horrible yesterday :(
Yesterday I had a half day at work, so I left mid afternoon to go home. I'm walking through our parking lot, which is fairly large and is home to several businesses (dentist, gym, insurance offices, etc etc). I had parked on the far side, and as I was walking to my car, I noticed there was a large white painter's van parked up front, still running but no driver. I could hear two dogs barking inside, one with a deeper louder bark and one that was obviously some sort of smaller dog (maybe poodle, yorkie, etc). I couldn't see the dogs, but out of NO where, the smaller dog starts shrieking. Blood curdling shrieks, and I could hear the larger dog growling and snarling and barking. I will never forget that sound, I knew they were fighting in the back of that van and there was nothing I could do. All of a sudden, it just stops. All noises from the van cease and I'm standing there, staring, wishing there was something I could do. The owner of the van had left the front windows down, and I had no idea what kind of dogs were in the back (I could jsut picture me yelling at the van and one of the dogs jumping out of that window at me) and I was absolutely helpless. I felt horrible.
I get in my car (but I'm parked pretty far off from the van) and I see the owner get inside and get ready to drive off. I guess he turned and looked into the back of the van, and he slammed on breaks and was screaming at the top of his lungs. Guess he found out what had happened while he was gone.
Moral of the story, don't ever leave your dogs together unsupervised even if you're going to just be a few minutes. You never know what can happen.
