I'm terrible at naming my animals. I always want them to be perfect.
When I got Gypsy (RIP), I didn't plan on keeping her, so I wasn't really concerned about a name. I decided to call her "Gypsy" after my Granny's little old rat terrier, Gypsy Rose Lee. It stuck, and it actually was perfect for her. We were very nomadic in my younger days!
Mexico, again, I didn't plan on keeping when I found her. I tried very hard to find a rescue to take her but most came back with replies of "She would be destroyed due to her temperment," so I ended up just keeping her. I named her Mexico since she was found in New Mexico, just a half-feral rez dog. Now almost six years later, she's a great dog and Mexi suits!
With Umah, it did take me a while to settle on a name. I wanted something german, abrupt, and with meaning. I had a hard time choosing between Rena (which means "Queen") and Umah (which means "Tranquility"). She still hasn't grown into her name, as she is the LEAST tranquil dog I've ever know, lmao, but I'm happy with it and always have been!
Marsha, Marsha, Marsha. When I saw her at the animal control for the first time, she was dirty and had a very unhealthy coat, and her colors were like that of a toasted marshmellow. White on the bottom, and golden tan on the top. I could NOT bring myself to name her Marshmellow, so I shortened it to Marsha. I've loved her name from the start!
Now with Zora, her name just came to me. I wasn't sure what I was going to name her, and then it just popped into my head. I didn't know the meaning of it but one of my forum friends told me it means "The Dawn", which was very appropriate for the situation I adopted her under.
And Miss Kitty. I had a hell of a time choosing a name for her! Olive, Oasis, Pinky.....then finally I settled on Miss Kitty. I think it took me almost two weeks to finally choose a name, lol! Sometimes I still wish I would have gone with Oasis, but I think it was too much of a mouthful for her. Kitty is sharp, and simple.
