My dogs usually get named one of two ways - I get a name in mind that I plan on using for a dog, or I get a dog and it takes forever to name it lol

Ruger and Jolene's names were both names I had picked out and wanted to use. Ruger's is inspired by the gun, and at the same time I had two other names picked out for future dogs - Fairin and Skyjacker. Fairin ended up going to a foster dog I nearly kept (until her PERFECT home came along)... and they re-named her Amy Skyjacker was given to a huge, deaf American Bulldog mix I was supposed to get... but the rescue lied horribly about his temperament (they said he was kid-safe, and I was pregnant at the time... come to find out the reason he was IN rescue was for going after children!). Jolene's... I don't remember the exact conversation that brought it up, but I remember deciding I was going to get a bitch and name her Jolene. I was looking for a second saluki puppy at the time, so I thought it would be a saluki... then Jo fell into my hands, and the name fit her from the start!

Bukra was "Sooty" with his breeder, and "Jordan" (after the COUNTRY, damn it... NOT the basketball player! lol) when I first got him. But it just didn't quite click, so I searched and searched for a different name that would fit. I finally found Bukra (which means "tomorrow" in Arabic) and it was perfect!

I don't re-use names, ever. So once a certain dog is picked for a name (like Skyjacker was), I won't ever use that name on another animal. I love naming things... I name my vehicles and cell phone lol
