IF the dog wanted to take his face off, she could have. That was the dog asking, the only way she knew how...for peple to stay away from her pups.
I'm personally not thrilled hearing about this coming from an APBT...as if she were an ideal example, there would be no aggression towards people under ANY circumstances.
But it's folly to believe that all pit bulls and dogs that resemble pit bulls are going to possess the ideal temperment for the breed.
That being said, protecting her pups is a fairly normal "dog" behavior, even if not the norm for "pit bull" behavior.
I won't even bother discussing the 800 other things wrong with this situation, none of which is your fault. :P
