I'm not sure how a private landlord would do it.

The problem is, maybe their dog doesn't LOOK like a stereotypical pit bull, and it was after the fact that someone said to the landlord, "well an AmStaff is considered a pit bull" (such as the landlord's homeowner's insurance company?)
