No, you're not stupid... or you're part of the majority of animal lovers who are stupid...

I still get upset over the three cats I had growing up. I was probably 5-6, but I remember them... Stripey and Smokey (original, eh?). The other one was Rose Posie Tigger Tiger Jr Double.

My parents made the cats stay out. It got so cold in the winter that I would go out and drape a throw rug over the cats lying on the porch chair, and they were so cold they didn't move out from under it until they had to. Stripey got shot on his flank, my parents put gauze on it and peroxide, after a week it started to rot and they dumped him at a shelter, where he was amazingly saved by a rescue. Rosie just disappeared. Killed most likely... Smokey was still a kitten, he probably got hit by a car, but we came home and his hip and leg were broken. The vet said that, since we could not afford surgery, she would either put him to sleep, or do the surgery ONLY if we gave him to her, because she got attached... Of course we went with the second.

That has been many years but it still hurts to think about it, and I don't even like cats as much as dogs.

And I know what you mean about the songs. There are a couple who remind me of my lost dogs. One I used to enjoy, but they had it playing in the room when they euthanized Dutch... The other I associate with my bulldog because I had a page for her, with the song on it. And I can't hear either without having to change it or crying my eyes out. I don't deal with loss well...

You're human, I'm sad to say... It's normal.
