dogs ... people... hell anything you love ... stay with you.. and you never forget... you just learn how to deal with it....
I have family members who have been dead over 40 years and I still think of them from time to time... sometimes it brings a smile and sometimes a tear.... I still think of Sunny, a dog I lost back in 1978 and that is a bit more than 6 years... I actually remember an old bitch from 1956 so if your 6 years are stupid, then my memory must be plain crazy...
Same here. Every dog I have lost since 1964 if something reminds me of the dog it is like being punched in the stomach. I still miss my Grandpa and he died in the 60s also. I don't think you really ever recover from losing something you love.

Have you ever seen that tan/white pit bull terrier on the Sarah McClaughlin animal shelter commercials? I fell in love with that dog at first sight through a TV screen and my eyes still well up a little when I see that poor dog layin' there shaking like that. I'm a 51 yr. old male who sheds a tear now and then for a dog I don't even know. I don't consider myself stupid because of it and neither should you. If anything it shows you have a good heart.
I can't watch those commercials they always make me cry.
