I don't know if it's true but we were told that if you have a sign like beware of dog and your dog bites someone you get in a lot more trouble because it's basically admitting you know your dog is aggressive. Whether or not that true I don't really know.
We don't have a sign because 1, we just got our pup a little while ago and I just haven't gotten around to getting one 2. what's to beware of haha, if someone broke in when we weren't there Athena is in her crate so there's no worry and if she is out that means I am home. Believe me, she'll keep on sleeping and it's me you got to worry about. Now that I'm thinking about it I should have beward of cat signs. Sometimes my cats even scare me and if someone disturbs them it's war.
