I was told the same thing by my insurance company. They suggested using No Tresspassing signs and if we felt safer mentioning dogs we could put up one of those Crossing signs or just the fire department signs saying dogs in the house. They said not to ever use any sign that could be interpreted as admitting our dog could bite so no Beware of Dog or Guard Dog On Duty type signs.
I was told the opposite by several high profile lawyers. Warning signs can help you in your case.
