I had a dog taken once...here is how it went.

This lady had a man who was serving time...she also had a little girl. They lived in some housing behind my office. Well she decided that my Parti Poodle (yeah, I know) would be perfect for her daughter so one day she came into the yard where the moving trucks are and took her. Her "boyfriend" was due home from Wackenhut (I know that is a funny name for a pen) Prison that weekend.

Well never let it be said that good deeds go unrewarded. There is an older man that I used to let clean the yard for a few bucks every week. Anytime he needed a little something, he would come (not begging) and ask for work. Well it took him five days to get the courage to tell me (he was afraid of the boyfriend biker) that my dog was tied up inside thier house.

It took me all of 1 second to jump the fence and knock on the door. She came to the door with her boyfriend right behind her. The screen door was still locked so I asked her if my dog was with them...She says YES and He says that is where she is going to stay. Well, before the two of them knew what happenned, I had ripped the screen door off the hinges and was coming in...I could hear my dog crying in the back bedroom (she was tied up with fishing line to a heating radiator). The woman was hitting me with the phone (old style rotary with handset) and the boyfriend took a grab at me...that was the last he saw of his teeth in his mouth.

I got to the bedroom and snapped the fishing and grabbed my dog. The girl was still coming at me and tried to grab the dog from my grasp. I made my way to the front, stepped over the "lights out" boyfriend and got my dog back to the office. I loaded her up in my truck and took her to a location where she would not be found.

I returned to my office and called the police...of course they were already on the way so I waited at my desk. They came in demanding the dog and I told them there was no way they were getting thier hands on her. They told me that I was being charged with "Breaking and Entering", "Home Invasion", "Theft" and "Assault". I told them fine and held out my wrists...they didn't know what to do. Since they had not witnessed the event or caught me in the act or getting away, all they could do was write up a report and let the other party file a complaint.

Defended myself in court and won. Funny thing...the boyfriend had broken probation and was back behind bars (I just don't know how that happenned?) If I had decided to call the police after the couple knew I found the dog, I would have never seen her again I am sure. Sometimes you just have to do what you must...

Lived 21 good years ... RIP
