Totally Awesome. New APBT as a neighbor!
Okay well as many of you may know we are temporarily living in an apartment until we can get out house built. We live in a super pet friendly community, though I have some issues with place, that is beside the point. We have a beautiful 5 month old American Pit Bull Terrier puppy living 2 doors down from us. Now how on earth do they have an American Pit Bull Terrier living here when they aren't allowed, there is a loophole. They adopted this dog from a shelter and it was a Lab mix. There is not an ounce of labrador in this dog. There vet strongly believes this is a purebred APBT, but he has on her records Lab/Terrier mix. Well I have talked with one of the leasing agents at our apartments before and they said that "if the dogs papers or adoption records state American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman, Akita, or Chow Chow the dog is not permitted. But we can't not permit someone with a Lab mix, or a Terrier mix." They said "Terrier mix could mean anything from Yorkie to Jack Russell Terrier to American Pit Bull Terrier." They also said "If someone comes in with a dog that is a German Shepherd/Chow Chow mix but the dogs adoption and vet records state that the dog is a German Shepherd mix, we can't dispute what the records say. Even if we suspect the dog is part Chow." They said we understand that a lot of people are in situations where they have to give up their dog because no one will rent to them. We try to help them the best we can. I could see the apartment getting into a lot of trouble for this in the future and I would never adopt a dog with pit bull in it until I am in my house. Then I'm going to start looking for my Staffordshire Bull Terrier (possibly SBT mix). That is awesome. So yeah living 2 doors down from us is a beautiful American Pit Bull Terrier. The funny thing is the neighbors keep going up to them and telling them what a beautiful dog they have, they are clueless to the breed if they knew they would probably run. He just tells them Terrier mix, so they can live here. Plus he is adopted there is no real way to know if the dog is pure APBT or not but she sure looks it.
How do most apartments handle mix breeds? Anyone know.
